In Pre-Calculus, a student will strive to master the functions and techniques important to the application of mathematics to the sciences and calculus. Starting with trigonometry, the class will analyze examples of many abstract concepts that form the foundation of college-level mathematics. A student in "Pre-Calc." will be prepared to enter calculus the following year and, if she or he chooses, continue an educational career underpinned by mathematics and its uses. This course is "college-prep." not only to facilitate a student's entrance into college; rather, the course will prepare a student for continued success through her or his college-career.
In this course you will learn to do those things, which computers and calculators cannot:
Mathematics is much more than just numbers and variables. "Math" exhibits a way of thinking: a way to present information or solve problems in a manner that cannot be refuted or misinterpreted.
In this course you will learn to do those things, which computers and calculators cannot:
- Interpret the graphs of various functions beyond linear and quadratic
- Manipulate graphs and their equations through transformations
- Use the concepts behind exponential and logarithmic functions
- Explore the graphs of Conic Sections
- Identify and use trigonometric functions and identities
- Use technology to better apply the abstract concepts of mathematics
